Hi ppl im Raimundo(rleeon). Hoard is a small background service that watches your game save folders, keeps a version after every play session, and syncs them between devices (Desktop only, im working im mobile version), It's written in Rust, AGPL-3.0, and you can self-host the server without creating any account. There's also a hosted version, and have a pro tier which is how im pay for all free users without benefits. Thats how im give you the option to try it and later make your own server using docker or unraid or synology or....

Hoard just backup your games and stores it in a server(mine or your"self-host"), is easy and new. This isnt a innovation, we have a alternative to hoard, you can use a combo with ludusavi & syncthing.

Every file is a blob named by its SHA256, and a version(a save) is just a manifest pointing at blobs. Most sessions only touch a few files, so on the hosted service 1.2TB of versions take 170GB and after compression we have 120GB in R2(Cloudflare storage).

The amazing in this is when i apply this tecnics the user device only need upload 1-10% of their save sizes(it depends on the game), making the sync so fast, without depending on the connection speed, because clients compress in updates and uncompress it in restores, and without using amount of cpu, on the contrary, it saves ram, network and cpu(load time), im mean really use little more cpu in a less time.

I tried content defined chunking on big saves and it saved 3%, because the game rewrites bytes all over the file. zstd --patch-from against the previous version gives a 1.1 MB delta for a 84 MB save. I dont have that working yet. If you've done deltas inside a content-addressed store without restores depending on long chains, I'd like to hear how.

Is ironic, i have a limit in the Hoard-Cloud of 2GB, and i only pay 2c or something if a user takes all, but only in egress(network usage) i pay 10 more times, although lately with all the new users i usually pay one dollar of storage every 3-4 days.

When what costs money is CPU, requests and egress, but what people understand is storage, how would you place limit to it?

    Try it: https://hoard.services/download https://github.com/rleeon/hoard

Self-Host issues im here, and in github issues or in Hoard discord.
